When selecting your flatware from Walco, you will need to choose not only the patterns, but the steel quality. Walco makes only 18/0 or 18/10 quality stainless steel so that you can be guaranteed a premium piece of flatware. The numbers in 18/10 and 18/0 stainless steel represent the amount of chromium and nickel as a percentage. For example, 18/10 stainless steel is composed of 18 percent chromium and 10 percent nickel. In order for a product to be labeled as stainless steel, there must be a minimum of 10 percent chromium in the mixture. The higher these numbers, the higher the corrosion resistance of the metal.
The highest quality of stainless steel available is 18/10 because of the added nickel which is another combatant in the war on rust and corrosion. 18/0 steel is actually somewhat misleading since the zero simply means there is no nickel in the stainless composition. While this means that it is less corrosion resistant, it is still a very high quality of stainless.
