Product Details
In order to gain better heat penetration on thicker cuts of steak, a steak weight is often used. This allows the steak to cook more evenly and a little bit faster, which is very helpful on done and well-done steaks. Update International has a perfect steak companion in its 5 1/4” x 9 1/2” cast iron steak weight (SWI-95). It may also be used on many grill-cooked items such as bacon, sausages, burgers and even hash browns. It has a wooden handle to prevent heat absorption while providing a comfortable grip.
Additional Considerations
- Cast iron is pre-seasoned and easy to clean

"I have used this press cooking bacon to achieve flat, uncurled strips and to press steak in a griddle pan. It is a smaller size that I chose so that it would fit in my frying pans. It is pre-seasoned cast iron and very easy to clean up. Overall a nice addition to my kitchen."

"Great for the price! Cure the cast iron first. (I recommend shortening and your oven; search the internet for options.) Perfect for keeping burgers in good shape for buns. These work on anything you want to press while grilling. Again: Cure the cast iron first (!) and you won't have rust. "

"Well since the press came with no instructions I was unaware that I had to prime it before using it so, I used it washed it and it was so full of rust that I threw it away. Would have been nice to know that there was some maintance BEFORE I used it."

"The steak press rusted the first time it hit water. I purchased it for a bacon press and I used it as such. It did a fine job of keeping the bacon flat but I do not like the idea of it rusting. Had I known the press was going to rust the first time it hit water I would not have made the purchase."

"durable and reasonably priced. did need to be cured. wood handle can be removed and cleaned. under side can be cleaned with ease. I think it could be larger in surface area but at this price Iwent ahead and ordered two. I expect these to last for a long time. definitely speeds cooking times."

"For the price, I would rate this outstanding. For those at home - you will need a large griddle or use it on the grill outside. I tried something new to cure it - I placed it in a cast iron skillet with enough oil to cover the top and let it simmer. It's about as smoky as putting it in the oven, but it was easier to deal with. It has worked great for steaks - quick cooking and non-stick. I tried it with bacon, but it transferred too much of the iron flavor (probably needs additional curing)."

"Actual Dims: 9"x5" - not the 10" advertised. Not cured - you must do that yourself. Cast iron is a bit rough. But all-in-all it's a bacon press. It presses bacon - and does it well. It works fine. The "business" side has 1/4" squares (or a 1/4" grid of grooves) - to help it not stick to the bacon, I'd imagine. Makes cleanup a little more laborious, but not bad."
