Part 7: Commercial Cleaning Pads
There is a throng of different floor maintenance pads, each designed and produced to give the best performance on specific floor surfaces. Some can be used wet while others are best used on dry surfaces. Either way, knowing what cleaning pad your machine needs to get the job done is important.
stripping pad
Stripping pad

Like the name suggests, this type of cleaning pad strips floors quickly because of its heavy-duty fibers. This pad would be used to remove all finish from a floor, including the wax build-up and dirt all the way down to the original surface.

The fibers on a stripping pad are more abrasive than other pads due to its heavy-duty cleaning capabilities. It is recommended for use on machines that operate at 175-350 R.P.M.

spray buffing pad
Spray buffing pad

This type of pad is designed for floor projects that require a light-duty scrubbing. It gives a floor’s surface a high gloss appearance while leveling and wetting properties that give the surface a smooth look and ability to form a tough and durable film.

Spray buffing finishes ought to be resistant to marking and scuffing. It is recommended for use on machines that operate at 175-350 R.P.M.

scrubbing pad
Scrubbing pad

This is one of the most common cleaning pads available. It vigorously cleans all dirt and some finish from heavily soiled floor surfaces.

It can be used during both wet and dry heavy-duty scrubbing. The scrubbing pad is recommended for use on machines that operate at 175-350 R.P.M.

polishing pad
Polishing pad

A polishing pad is simply a product used to polish a clean and dry floor. It is a pad that is designed to polish dry floors or polish floors with a fine water mist to ensure an extra high gloss. The polishing pad is recommended for use on machines that operate at 175-350 R.P.M.

burnishing pad
Burnishing pad

Applying heat and friction using ultra high-speed machines to produce a high shine and harden the floor finish is what a burnishing pad does.

It is best used on hard wood floors. After use, it gives the floor a glossy sheen and will make the floor itself slicker. The burnishing pad is recommended for use on machines that operate at 1,000-3,000 R.P.M.

buffing pad

This is a mild yet aggressive spray buffing pad that is an excellent floor cleaner and shiner. It can be used on both softer and harder floor finishes.

The pad helps buff out scuffed polishes and other markings. The buffing pas is recommended for use on machines that operate at 350-1,000 R.P.M.

natural hair pad
Natural hair pad

A natural hair pad brings out the shine on softer and buffable floor finishes. The natural hair that goes into the pad’s construction is good when using the product on hard finishes or in high-traffic areas.

The pad polishes the floor while removing marks and scratches along the way. The natural hair pad is recommended for use on machines that operate at 1,000-3,000 R.P.M.

natural fiber pad

This particular cleaning pad has natural lubricating fibers that contribute to the pad’s overall efficiency. When in use, it produces a high gloss on harder floor finishes.

The pad works best when there is a minimum burnish or spray buff floor maintenance procedure required. The natural fiber pad is recommended for use on machines that operate at 1,500-3,000 R.P.M.
