With many kitchens using a lot of prepared and canned ingredients to prepare their foods, there is a lot of cans being opening in the back of a restaurant. There are several types of manual can openers that can be purchased for
a commercial kitchen, the first being the smallest, handheld manual can opener, these are very similar to the can openers found in homes across the country and are good for opening smaller cans of ingredients. For large cans, it is best to use a table/counter mounted or wall mounted can opener. These openers are designed handle the industrial sized cans that most restaurants buy. The blades lock in place and the handle on top cranks around to open large cans quickly. Over time, the blade used to puncture and open the cans will become caked with grime and food product. It is important to periodically disassemble and clean the manual can opener components with warm, soapy water and a sponge in order to maintain a safe, germ free food service environment.
