There are many different kitchen timer types. The classic dial type can be found in many home kitchens across America. For these, you simply turn the dial a little past the desired time, then back to the countdown time, set it down and wait.

Digital models offer more options, such as displaying the time of day, counting down and counting up. Some of the more complex models even allow you to set the time for several different food items at once.
