Finding a hair in the food can cause a customer to quickly lose their appetite. Whether this is a common occurrence or just one that has been overdone by Hollywood and the media is irrelevant, all foodservice employees are required, by law, to wear hair restraints when handling food or cleaning food equipment. Many foodservice establishments have their employees wear ball caps with the company logo on it, making the hair restraint a part of the uniform. However, large food processing facilities in which the workers are not always visible just opt for a hair net. These hair restraints are all pretty much the same. The only major difference is some have a finer weave and resemble a thin cloth or shower cap, whereas others are more net-looking. Employees with beards will also need a special restraint to keep the hair on their face and out of the soup.
