Dunnage Racks

Health and safety code often requires that any food items kept in storage areas or walk-in coolers in a commercial kitchen be stored at least six inches off the ground. Dunnage racks are low, sturdy racks made of metal or plastic which provide a great option for safe, clean back-of-the-house food storage.
Dunnage racks are perfect for heavy items like full boxes of food or supplies, tubs of prepared foods or giant sacks of baking ingredients. Since it is both difficult and dangerous to put heavy items on high shelves, dunnage racks provide an alternative to setting boxes directly on the floor. Dunnage racks usually have leg heights of six to twelve inches and can accommodate up to two thousand pounds of weight. Be sure to instruct employees to bend their knees and use their legs when lifting items off these racks. Bending over could cause back strain or other injuries.
