Apple corers are great when preparing apples for boiling or baking. They make quick work of the most arduous process of ridding the apples of seeds and the hard shells surrounding the seeds. Corers get rid of that, leaving only the most desired parts of the apple.

What exactly is a good use for a corer? Making apple sauce will put your corer to good use. For good apple sauce, the type of apple you use is the most important factor of all. You want to select sweet apples, not necessarily the apples you would want to eat raw. Good types to use in apple sauce are Gala, Fuji, Red Delicious or Rome. Of course, when making apple sauce from scratch, it is best to get apples that were made using all natural processes by picking up apple at a local farmer’s market (you can always use an organic grocer if there are no farmer’s market in your area).
No you are going to core and slice all of the apples you bought and place them, peel still on, in boiling water until they are soft all the way through. Then you can put the apples through a food mill or a food grinder. Once you have the desired consistency, place the sauce into a pot and season to taste with cinnamon, you will not need to add sugar. Once you have enough, start putting the apple sauce into jars.
