Twist Drains

Twist drains use a twistable handle to open and close the drain plug. They have various inlet and outlet sizes as well as an optional sink overflow attachment. You will want to take all of these specifications into consideration when selecting a drain.

Twist drains attach to the sink’s drain via a removable strainer. You simply place the strainer inside the sink bowl and screw it to the drain body to hold it into place. The size of your sink opening (sink opening diameter) will indicate which size of drain you need. You will also want to look at the other end of the drain, the drain opening diameter. This indicates what size the drain pipe needs to be (1 ½” or 2” are most common).

Some twist drains even come with a separate inlet on their backs. This is used to pipe an overflow outlet to the sink bowl. Should the water level rise too high, the excess water flows into the outlet and down the drain.
