Tomato Slicers

High production tomato slicers allow the user to slice tomatoes up to five times faster than by using a knife alone. The tomato is pushed through a series of evenly spaced blades in order to create slices of identical thickness. Slice thickness is one of the most important features to take into account when choosing a model. Tomato slicers come with cutting blades spaced anywhere from 3/16” up to ¼.” Aside from slice thickness, the presence of an additional handle is also a desirable feature. The second handle is usually located right above the cutting blades and can be used for both carrying the unit as well as providing extra stability and leverage when being used. If the tomatoes are coming through bruised, mushy or otherwise damaged, this is an indication that the blades are dull and need to be changed. The blade assembly is a single unit that can be easily removed and replaced. Also, you will want to make sure to clean the slicer after each use. Though the pusher block and other components have corrosion resistant properties, tomato juice is highly acidic and can eventually break down the coating if not cleaned. Dirty kitchen tools are breading grounds for bacteria, too.
