There are several different door configurations available for solid door refrigerators. Some open to the left (left hinge) while others open to the right (right hinge), and some models have multiple doors with different door swings. The door swing is an important consideration when placing the unit in your kitchen, because a door that swings the wrong way can severely disrupt the kitchen flow.
You also have the option of full-length or split doors, also called Dutch Doors. For split-door units, there is not any real separation between the top and bottom compartment, but some establishments prefer the split doors because when only half of the unit is open, it can help reduce energy costs.
Solid door refrigerators are mounted on either legs or casters. Models with casters are ideal because they can easily be moved and repositioned for cleaning and servicing. However, if you do purchase one with casters, be sure it comes with wheel locks so the unit does not start to roll around on its own.
