Nugget ice is a favorite in soft drinks because it is easy to chew and absorbs the flavor of the drink. For these reasons, this ice type is found in a lot of convenience stores and quick serve restaurants. Foodservice establishments that use nugget ice and have different cup sizes will need to multiply the estimated number of beverage size sales by half of the cup’s capacity to determine how much ice they will need a day. For example, an establishment that intends to sell one thousand 32 ounce beverages a day will need 16,000 ounces (or 500 pounds) of ice a day.

The remote condenser and maker are connected by copper refrigeration lines, so the further the machine and condenser are from one another, the purchase and installation costs will be more expensive. Also, if the condenser is too far from the machine, it will not be able to pump the refrigeration through the lines, so it is important to place the condenser as close to the maker as possible.
