Flatware racks are specifically designed to hold silverware while it is being washed. These differ from other racks in that they have a tight lattice base that prevents the spoons and knives from falling out during the wash cycle. Both standard size racks and half-size baskets are available. Full-size flatware racks are 20” x 20” with differing heights and will fit into any standard-size washer. The baskets are long enough to fit a washer but only half the width. Two baskets can be placed side-by-side in the machine. Flatware baskets have individual compartments, making them ideal for presorting silverware. Washing is also more efficient with this type as opposed to the other design where items are just piled into the rack.
Keep in mind that a standard-size flatware rack will hold around 100 pieces of silverware. You can use this number to help determine how many racks you will need during peak hours and at closing time. Be sure to include other small kitchen tools that may be tossed into the rack when estimating your needs.
