How to Use a Pizza Stone on a BBQ Grill

Nothing beats a homemade pizza. You can customize your ingredients, get the crust just the way you like it, and add extra cheese without having to raise heaven and earth.

In the winter time, there is nothing wrong with making your homemade pizza in the oven. Who doesn’t enjoy a little extra heat on a cold, cold day? But in the summer time when temperatures are high, the last thing you want to do is turn your kitchen into a sweltering inferno.

By utilizing your barbeque outdoor grill in tandem with a pizza stone, you can make your favorite pizza pies outside and get a little fresh air while you’re at it.

What You’ll Need

1) A gas or charcoal barbeque grill
2) A pizza stone (either rectangular or round, depending on the shape of your grill)
3) A pizza peel
4) Tongs
5) Your favorite pizza ingredients

Why Use a Pizza Stone?

There are some fantastic benefits of using a pizza stone on an outdoor grill. One of the best benefits is that you can create a softer crust than you would if you just placed the dough on the grates by itself. The pizza stone also provides a reliable cooking surface to rotate the pizza for an even finish.

Preheat Your Grill and Your Pizza Stone

After you prepare your pizza, preheat your grill with the pizza stone on the grates. Turn the temperature on high and allow the temperature to reach 500°F. You want your pizza stone to heat up evenly with the grill to avoid cracking and to ensure the best possible pizza. >>Learn more about how to use a pizza stone

Placing Your Pizza on the Pizza Stone

Since the pizza stone will be extremely hot, you want to avoid touching it at all costs. This is where the pizza peel is a must-have tool. Use your pizza peel to transport the pizza to and from the pizza stone. >>Learn more about what a pizza peel is

Allow the pizza to bake for 10-12 minutes, lifting the lid once to rotate the pizza 180 degrees with your tongs so that the pizza cooks evenly.

When the crust has become a lovely golden brown, use your tongs to slide the pizza onto your pizza peel. Slice, serve and enjoy!

Concerning Your Pizza Stone

Turn off the grill and allow the pizza stone to cool before even attempting to remove it. When removing the pizza stone from the grill, use your pizza peel just to be safe
