Serving Customers with Soy Allergies

Soy is one of the main staples in the United States food chain. Though we do not eat soy beans the way we eat corn, soy products and extracts are used in a number of our foods and recipes. Since soy is very widespread, it is important to read all food labels and recipes when serving customers with a soy allergy. A single protein is enough to cause an allergic reaction.

Common Ingredients that Contain Soy

When preparing a dish for a guest that has a soy allergy, avoid using the following ingredients as they may contain soy proteins:

Edamame
Miso
Shoyu souce
Natto

Tamari
Textured vegetable protein
Tofu
