Straws

All restaurants have beverages available for their guests, whether it be a sit-down restaurant with high-quality glassware or a fast-food restaurant where people help themselves to drink cups and lids. Whether the restaurant sets out wrapped drinking straws on the table for guests, or offers a straw dispenser by the soda fountain, straws are an important drinking accessory. Straws were invented in 1888 by Marvin Stone, a paper cigarette holder manufacturer. Back then, the straw was a little flimsy and soggy. But straws have come a long way since then. Straws these days are usually made of plastic to keep them upright and sturdy in beverages. Straws are sometimes distributed wrapped in paper coverings to keep them more sanitary. Sometimes this is even a health department requirement. Otherwise, they are manufactured just as is, either to be placed in a self-service straw dispenser or for servers to put them immediately in a drink before serving the guests.
