Cling wrap is frequently used in both residential and commercial kitchens. Although often known by a brand name or two, cling wrap is usually used to store prepared foods before they are cooked, to store leftovers in the refrigerator, and to wrap individual foods like sandwiches, cookies or brownies for retail. Cling wrap is often made from PVC, a durable type of plastic, for use as food wrap. Cling wrap literally clings to foods, plates and trays, reducing the oxygen or contaminants that can reach the food. This prevents many foods from spoiling as quickly as they might have if left uncovered. Cling wrap is perfect for foods being stored in the refrigerator, but is not recommended for hot applications. In fact, microwaving or cooking plastic wrap can be dangerous, so always remove it before reheating your stored food items.
