Clamshells are nature’s way of keeping seafood fresh. The restaurant industry followed suit, employing products that help keep leftovers and to-go items fresh, even if this food does not include clams. Clamshell containers offer guests the opportunity to enjoy their food later, or take it securely to another location for consumption. Clamshell containers are a type of take-out container, but not all take-out containers are clamshell containers. Clamshells are specifically designed to be able to close, whether by pressing the top part of the container into the bottom, or fitting a small tab into a slot. Clamshells are unique because they always have a hinge at the back, securing the top and bottom so that both pieces are never lost. Clamshells are available in plastic, foam or biodegradable materials to suit your price range, your food type and your customers’ needs.
