Biodegradable Carry Out Containers

Manufacturers are working on achieving a larger inventory of environmentally preferable containers. Until then, there are several great options. Go for EATware containers made from bamboo and other plant fibers for a versatile, totally biodegradable carryout container, available in a few different capacities. For smaller portion cups, check out the PLA soufflé cups and lids. PLA is short for poly lactic acid, the resultant material when corn is commercially processed into a starch, then a sugar, transforming it into a stiff, sturdy plastic-like container.

Unlike true plastics, these containers are not meant to last. They break down most efficiently in a composting facility where they are exposed to adequate heat and moisture. Even if these products are being thrown away, they are still preferable to plastics and polystyrene like Styrofoam, so give them a look and see if they will work for you.
