When choosing a sauce cup, first determine what you will need it for. If you will use it for holding salad dressings on the side, for example, look for a 1 ½ ounce to 3 ounce dish, which is the perfect size. This size metal ramekin will also work perfectly for holding and serving ketchup, ranch or barbecue sauce for dipping.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a vessel to hold juices for dipping a sandwich, for example, you should go with a larger, “au jus” style sauce cup that can hold six to fourteen ounces. This cup should have a wide rim, which will allow the sandwich to be dipped directly into the cup. In addition to metal ramekins, large ceramic sauce cups are also perfect for holding au jus type sauces.
