Public restrooms should always have some sort of signage posted on or next to the door to let patrons and guests know which restroom to use. Many shopping centers have three or more restrooms, one designated for men, one for women, and one unisex or handicap accessible restroom. Some places even have family restrooms, perfect for parents with children who may need a little more space and privacy.
Many facilities also have restrooms designated specifically for employees. These are usually located near the back of the store or in the back of the house in most restaurants. For these lavatories, using signs that read “Restrooms for Employees Only” helps avoid any confusion. On the other hand, some operations post signs that read “Restrooms for Customer Use Only” to prevent people coming in off the street simply to use the facilities and then leave. If this is a big problem for your restaurant or store, you may find that investing in restroom locks and keys is the best way to control the issue.
