As faux animal prints and fake leather come into style, finding a genuine leather charger plate can be challenging. Fortunately, these chargers are made of genuine animal skin, and you can rest assured that they are real leather. Charger plates are not designed as a food-contact surface. Instead, they are meant to be kept underneath the regular dinnerware and are meant to produce a visual impact, not to eat off of. That is what makes a leather charger a feasible option. If the leather charger plates get wet or dirty, you can rescue them by removing the water or food crumbs with a damp rag. You must do this immediately to salvage the leather and restore it to good condition. Next, right away you need to apply a leather conditioner to the surface of the charger. Of course, this conditioner is not designed for food contact, so make sure your dinner guests know that they are not to put any food on the leather that they will eat.
