Due to the metal banding, formal china dinnerware requires special care in a commercial or home kitchen. It should never go in the dishwasher. Instead, wash manually to retain the integrity of the gold, silver and platinum bands. Although this will take extra labor, it will be well worth it, since your dinnerware can last for years when cared for properly.
In addition to manual warewashing, keep your plates and bowls in perfect, shining condition by wiping them down with a soft cloth before service. This will remove all smudges and fingerprints from the porcelain. Occasionally, the metal rims may need a bit of polishing as well. When stacking your dishes, consider putting a soft cloth or paper between the dishes, as this will prevent scratching. Only dishes with a polished foot should be stacked directly on top of one another.
