Round cake stands are usually lifted off the ground a few inches not only to provide a pedestal for cakes to be displayed atop, but also to provide space to easily pick up and transfer the cake. Smaller birthday cakes, anniversary cakes and other celebratory creations can be displayed on these raised models, but it is not a good idea to place a large tiered cake on these stands. Since wedding cakes and other tall cakes typically speak for themselves in terms of height, there is no additional height needed to show off the cake. Also, raised cake stands generally do not have the same weight and balance as simple base models.
For a new way to use a cake stand when there is no cake to display, try using it to showcase a centerpiece of flowers, candles or decorative orbs. These gorgeous cake stands deserve to be in the middle of the action at all times, and such using the stand for more than just cake can help off-set the potentially expensive investment of a quality cake stand.
