Bon Chef’s chafing dishes are made using 18/8 stainless steel and some of the models have brass accents. You known that the quality of stainless steel has been proven and it is a great material to have in a commercial environment, but what exact does 18/8 mean and how does it affect the quality of your metal? For starters, 18 refers to the percentage of chromium in the steel alloy. In order for a product to be considered stainless, it has to have a minimum of ten percent chromium.
The second number refers to the nickel content of the metal. In this case, the stainless steel is made up of eight percent nickel. Nickel is another stainless additive that helps to ward of corrosion and stains, so the more nickel the better the stainless steel will be at keeping away nasty stains and evil rust.
