By now, most grade-school children know what a frappucino is, but not every adult knows how to make one. This somewhat iconic drink – of the coffee mega-chain, Starbuck – is combination of iced coffee and sweet ingredients for the perfect pick-me-up on a hot day. Here, you can learn how to make the blended beverage from the comfort of your own home and without the hefty price tag.
- ½ Cup of Double Strength Coffee or shot of Espresso
- ½ Cup of Whole Milk
- 1-2 Tablespoons of granulated sugar
- 1-2 Tablespoons of flavored syrup (ie: mocha, chocolate or caramel)
- 1-2 Cups of Ice
Step One: Brew the Coffee
The frappuccino will taste best with freshly ground coffee, so if you have a coffee grinder, buy the beans whole and grind them just before brewing. Make the pot of coffee with twice as much grounds as you would typically use for a cup of coffee. If you are lucky enough to own an espresso machine, then pull a shot of espresso.
Step Two: Cool the Coffee
Here is the part where a little patience is required. Pouring the coffee straight into the ice will shock the freshly brewed coffee, and it will not taste as good. Let the pot cool naturally, or place it in the refrigerator to cool a little more quickly, until it is at least room temperature.
Step Three: Mix in the Blender
Once the coffee has cooled, add it, along with the sugar, milk and syrup into the blender and mix on high for about 20 seconds. Then, fill your blender with ice. If your refrigerator has the ability to produce crushed ice, select this option, as it will be much easier for your blender to chop. Blend on high for another 20 seconds or until the texture is slushy.
Top the drink with whipped cream and drizzle it with your favorite flavored syrup. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this tasty treat as a midday indulgence or as a sweet treat among friends.
