Instead of sending the glasses back to the kitchen to be washed, many barkeepers use upright glass washers to clean the glasses right behind the counter. This allows the bartender to clean glasses as they are cleared and have clean glasses on hand for the next customer. Both manual and electric upright glass washers are available. The type you need depends largely on your preferences and glass washing needs. Manual models come with three standard brushes and have suction cup feet, to attach them to the sink bottom and will sit there underneath the soapy water waiting for the operator to scrub the glasses clean themselves. As a way to increase cleaning speed and efficiency, there are electrically powered washers that gently spin the brushes and agitate the water. Some models of this type even come with submersible motors in case you do not want an ugly washer motor sticking above the bar counter. Whichever type of upright glass washer you decide upon, each kind only comes with one set of standard brushes that can be used on most cups. However, brushes of differing lengths, thicknesses and shapes are available to accommodate the many different glass styles found in a bar.
