Bar Foodservice Profiles
Liquor and liqueur, taken by themselves, are often considered a bit more upscale than many drinks served in a bar, at a catered event or even in the home. Cracking open a bottle of beer may require a pint glass, but pouring a sipper of brandy requires a snifter, or at least a respectable rocks glass.
Liquor, also known as spirits, are traditionally
served in special glasses, often to emphasize either the size and amount of drink that should be consumed in it, or the way the drink ought to be handled. Shooters, for example, are designed to be filled with one or two types of liquor, perhaps a splash of sweetener or mixer, and downed in a single gulp. Whiskey glasses are designed in a similar fashion, often holding only about two ounces so that a small drink can be poured and consumed with a quick tilt of the head and a hard swallow. Liquor glasses are most commonly utilized for liquors or liqueurs that are served without accompaniment; without mixers and often without ice. The rocks glass would be the exception, employed for spirits served “on the rocks,” providing enough room for both the ice cubes and the splash of vodka, whiskey or gin.
