Crimping your hair is so 1980’s, but crimping your fondant is always in style. Easily add the smallest of details to any of your cakes with this underappreciated utensil of a fondant crimper.
Fondant crimpers are small and have a similar look to tongs or tweezers but with decorative and sharp ends. To use, insert them into your fondant and gently squeeze. Make just one imprint, or continue with multiple to create puffy looking borders, outlines and patterns.
You can use it on your fondant before you place it on the cake, or after. Fondant crimpers are especially helpful when decorating large cakes or cake boards. Just remember not to push the crimper all the way into the fondant-- aim for about halfway, in order to avoid undesirable fondant voids.
