A rubber spatula covered in frosting rests on a lid
This rubber spatula has been used to scrape frosting out of a mixing bowl and onto a cake. While rubber spatulas are not ideal for icing cakes, they are perfect for removing residue from a bowl or other container. The spatula was placed on this lid so that it would not get the work table messy with chocolate.

VS

Before the time of celebrity chefs and televised baking shows, baking was considered a professional trade. The art of baking does not require a camera or an audience, but the right knowledge, experience, and supplies. Baking is a unique part of the food service industry, one that relies on precision and science. Equipment like dough scales and other measuring supplies are required for large-scale recipes, often called "formulas" in baking terms. Proofers provide the temperature-controlled and humidity-controlled environment necessary for dough to rise properly. There are even specialized ovens to ensure that cakes, breads and pastries are baked to perfection.

And do not forget about the supplies. Pans of all sorts make baking breads, cakes, pies and cookies a cinch, and there are even specialty supplies for the pastry chefs out there. Using the proper baking pans is another aspect of baking. Some breads require specialized loaf pans, called pullman loaf pans, in order to achieve the right shape and size. Other breads can be cooked on a basic sheet pan. When it comes to cakes, there are countless possibilities, from panettone pans to bundt pans to springform pans, all depending on the type of cake. Baking mats are also important for cooking items like cookies and pastries, which may stick to metal surfaces. Baking is a science, not an experiment. Choose your supplies and equipment to achieve the desired results with your bakery operation or even find more joy in your baking hobby at home.
