The 8" x 9" Standard Blade Short Handle Wood Peel (814) is a wooden pizza peel with a rectangular blade that measures eight inches (20.3 cm) tall by nine inches (22.9 cm) wide making it the perfect size for smaller-sized pizzas. This all wood pizza peel, expertly manufactured by American Metalcraft, gives a nostalgic, old-world feel to any pizzeria and is the traditional tool used when cooking pizzas in an oven. Wooden peels are better at holding the pizza on the peel and are gentler on the pizza than metal peels whose slick, sharp surfaces can accidentally cut or slice pizzas.
In the summer we do 10 inch quesadillas on the grill. The peel is perfect for flipping the quesadillas. I did, however, finish the peel with a couple of coats of butcher block finish to make a slipperier surface. I gave one of the two peels I bought to a neighbor who says his peel is perfect for the small pizzas that he prepares.
I have several sizes of pizza stones for making homemade pizzas in my oven. After recently buying a set of 8 inch stones I found it difficult to use my full size wooden peel to place the pizzas on the smaller stones. I found this small wooden peel and it does the job perfectly. And the price was excellent.
The pizza peel serves it's purpose. We like making our own pizzas and this peel is an excellent addition to our home kitchen equipment. It not only serves as a way to get the pizza in and out of the oven, I also use it as a serving piece. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for a pizza board.
The peel is fine. It's just a very basic piece of wood. Sort of looks like something my kids could make in wood shop. No complaints, works fine, just not very "finished" looking.
I needed a small paddle for my pizza oven. Works great.
