Oregano is an herb that is popular in Italian, Greek and Turkish cuisine, among others. Combined with basil, oregano contributes to the distinctive characteristics of Italian dishes, such as the tomato sauce used on pizza. Many pizza shops also set dried oregano on dining room tables so customers can season their slices.
